Levengrove Park is one of 71 parks across Scotland to be presented with a Green Flag Award this year.

The international accolade, administered by Keep Scotland Beautiful, acts as a benchmark for recreational outdoor space.

It celebrates well-maintained parks and greenspaces and supports the opportunities that they provide to enable exercise, improve mental wellbeing and provide safe spaces for play.

Almost 2,000 parks across the world have achieved the award.

Derek Robertson, Chief Executive of Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “I would like to congratulate Levengrove Park in West Dunbartonshire.

"Receiving this prestigious international benchmark recognises all of the hard work that has gone into maintaining and managing this precious green open space."

As part of a multi-million pound project to restore and revive the park, a new pavilion café and training suite were officially opened in May.

Other works undertaken to improve the park include a new play area, which opened in May 2018, and the restoration the park’s heritage features, including St Serf's Church and Kilmahew Fountain.

Councillor Iain McLaren, convener of infrastructure, regeneration and economic development at West Dunbartonshire Council added: “We are absolutely delighted that Levengrove Park has been given Green Flag Award status.

"This award recognises how hard our Greenspace staff work throughout the year to ensure the area continues to be a clean and pleasant space for our residents.

“Over the last few years the council has worked tirelessly to restore the park’s heritage features, improve playpark facilities and opened a brand new pavilion and training suite.

"These vital facilities, along with a host of popular events, are the reason people come from near and far to enjoy Levengrove.”
