RESIDENTS of Dumbarton and the Vale are being warned of thunderstorms overnight.

The Met Office, the UK Government's weather forecasters, has issued a yellow weather warning for the area.

Starting tonight at 6pm, the warning will last until 6am tomorrow.

According to the Met Office, the warning may lead to "power cuts and travel delays".

The website said: "There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.

"There is a small chance of damage to property from lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

"There is a small chance of a few homes and businesses likely, leading to some damage to buildings or structures.

"There is a small chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus."

Forecasters say there may be places who are missed by the storms, but where they do occur, there is a chance of "frequent lightning".
