THE first steps were taken in bringing a new primary school to a Vale community.

Pupils and staff were joined by councillors for the official groundbreaking to mark the beginning of work on the new Bonhill Primary School.

The contractor for the educational development, Interserve Building, also had representatives at the silver spade ceremony.

May Smillie, education spokeswoman, told the Reporter following the ceremony: “How fantastic — three brand new secondary schools going online over the summer.

“St Peter the Apostle High School, Clydebank High School and the Vale of Leven Academy will be opening, while work will also begin on Bonhill Primary.”
