A PROBE has been launched after two teenagers were seriously assaulted in Balloch Country Park.

Last Tuesday, a 16-year-old and 19-year-old boy were attacked by a gang of between 15 and 20 teenagers.

The pair were approached by the gang, which contained both males and females, in the park at around 5pm.

The 16-year-old boy was then punched repeatedly in the face, before managing to escape the savage beating, making his way towards the water.

The gang's attention was then turned to the older of the two after he tried to assist his friend.

The 19-year-old was struck on the head with a brick, before the attackers made their escape.

Both boys made their way to Balloch train station, getting the train to Glasgow and checking themselves in at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

The pair were treated for their injuries and subsequently released.

It is not clear what sparked the attack.

Detective constable Geoff McKillop, from Clydebank police office, said: "This was a totally unprovoked attacked which has left two young men with serious injuries which require further medical treatment and therefore it is vital that we trace those responsible for such reckless conduct.

“I know that there were members of the public that assisted in the first assault and I ask that if any of these people have not already spoken to police that they do so immediately.

“Anyone who has information or anyone who has captured any footage on their cameras should contact police at Clydebank via telephone number 101 quoting incident number 3027 of 23 July 2019.”
