A VALE childminder has been praised by inspectors in a recent report.

Following an unannounced inspection at the end of June, Alexandria carer Kate Young received three "very good" ratings by the Care Inspectorate.

The body travels the length of the country inspecting care homes, nurseries, childminders and other facilities in the field to ensure the highest possible standard of care.

Ms Young's service, which is run from her home, had six children registered at the time of the June 24 visit, with one present during the inspection.

Her service aims to care for children ""in a safe, fun and stimulating environment, and to have open communication with parents" according to the report.

The ratings given to Ms Young for her work in the quality of care and support, environment and management are the second highest which the inspectors can bestow.

Speaking to inspectors, parents praised the service.

One said: "It's an absolute pleasure knowing how well cared for my child is."

Another added: "Kate is kind caring and considerate."

A third said on their assessment form: "I would be lost without her, she always goes above and beyond for the kids."

A final parent said: "Don't know what we would do without her."

In a section on the strengths of the service, inspectors said: "The childminder provides a calm and nurturing environment for children and has developed very positive relationships with families. She promotes children's health and wellbeing through a wide range of outdoor play experiences."

In identifying possible improvements for the service, the inspectors instructed Ms Young to carry on along the same path.

The report said: "The childminder should continue to take forward the action plan for the service and complete the reviews and updates of children's personal plans. This will help the childminder to develop further positive outcomes for the children."

Care Inspectorate staff have the ability to recommend actions which should be taken by services, or to dish out requirements for more severe infractions, which must be followed in a prescribed timescale.

Ms Young's service was not ordered to do anything by the Care Inspectorate.
