Loch Lomond Rugby Club are inviting the local community to come and give the sport a try this weekend at their RBS RugbyForce Family Fun Day.

The final preparations are being made for what promises to be a landmark occasion at the club’s ground on Sunday, August 11.

Thanks to a huge behind the scenes effort, earlier this summer the Beechwood outfit was one of only eight clubs in the whole of Scotland to receive a Star Club award from the RBS RugbyForce initiative, which is run in conjunction with Scottish Rugby and is designed to help strengthen and grow rugby clubs.

That award brought with it a grant to stage an event which promotes the sport and Loch Lomond are hoping to welcome as much of the local community as possible in a day which promises to be memorable and action-packed.

Running from 10am to 4pm and staged at Loch Lomond Rugby Club, the Family Fun Day will allow visitors to sample and take part in a number of rugby taster sessions as well as a variety of family friendly activities throughout the day, while there will also be an appearance from two Scotland international players.

Jackie Baillie MSP is also planning to attend and has already recognised Loch Lomond’s achievements after submitting a motion to the Scottish Parliament “to congratulate everyone at the rugby club.”

Loch Lomond’s mini and junior rugby section has grown hugely in recent years but the club is always looking for new players throughout all the age groups and into the senior team, as well as coaches and volunteer helpers.

Hopes are high that this event will help to inspire more people to get involved.

A volunteer workforce – from players and coaches to families and friends of the club – have been busy making a number of improvements to the facilities at Beechwood Pavilion in Bonhill and Loch Lomond minis and junior head coach John Munn said: “It’s been brilliant to see the club rally round to make this project happen.

“We at Loch Lomond all know what a great and inclusive sport rugby can be and we’re looking forward to welcoming lots of visitors for our open day.”
