Youngsters in Dumbarton and the Vale have been keeping fit and active this summer by attending a host of West Dunbartonshire Leisure’s sports development holiday camps.

We caught up with a recent multi-sport camp at Vale of the Leven Academy.

On the day, kids had the chance to show off their football skills and try something a little bit different by giving bowls a go.

During the same week, for children aged between two and six, the sports development team also held an intensive balance bike programme.

The sessions helped those who attended learn how to glide, balance and pedal with their peers in a safe and fun environment.

Angus MacDonald, sports development co-ordinator, said: “Fifteen youngsters took part in the balance bike sessions at the VOLA with only one child having been on a balance bike before.

“Five of them actually progressed to pedals during the week, which was a great achievement and demonstrates the importance and benefits of learning to balance on a bike without stabilisers.”
