THE council is on the lookout for a new wind farm developer after the initial firm backed out.

West Dunbartonshire Council was looking to build its own wind farm at Pappert Community Woodland, with a private developer building another on land adjacent to the council owned site.

Lomond Energy was the initial intended developer, but the firm has since pulled out, leaving the council looking for another way forward.

A report due to go before the infrastructure, regeneration and economic development committee, states the council is in talks with a developer who may be looking to create a “larger scale” wind farm with bigger turbines.

The report also states that the council’s own plans for a smaller scale development would be “extremely challenging from a cost and return perspective”.

Committee members have been recommended to instruct officers to continue conversations with private sector firms in a bid to resolve the issue, as well as in the hope of coming to some kind of shared agreement with firms.
