A gig is being held in memory of a Dumbarton man who sadly lost his fight with cancer last year.

A friend of Tommy Mills, Paul Lindsay, has organised the event, which kicks off at the Clipper at 9pm on August 24, in aid of The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, where Tommy went for treatment.

Paul’s U2 tribute band, Rattled and Hummin, will be putting on a ‘Greatest Hits’ set, along with performances from some of Tommy’s music pals who will be coming together to play a support set.

Tommy was a guitarist with local band The Sid James Experience from the time of their formation in the 80s, and his presence in the studio and out gigging is sadly missed.

Paul had known Tommy since 1995 when my Dad took him on as a window fabricator at Thermaseal in Dumbarton.

He told the Reporter: “My Dad was very close to Tommy through work and always valued how valuable he was, both as an employee but also as an acquaintance.

"We were extremely shocked and saddened to hear of his diagnosis in spring 2016.

"In addition to the work side of things Tommy and myself had a common interest in music, playing live music etc, and he was very encouraging to myself when I started to venture out to play music myself with my own band of whom he knew a few of the members at the end of the 90s.

"Tommy had always wanted to see me with my U2 tribute band but never had the chance, so I thought it would be a great way to both bring a good group of people together to remember him but also to try and raise some funds for the Beatson who not only provided care for Tommy, but for someone close to almost everyone we know who has had the misfortune of fighting cancer.

"I looked at different options venue wise but financially they were costing too much up front and then I contacted an old acquaintance David Davidson from the Clipper in Dumbarton who kindly allowed us to use the bar.

“Come along for a great night of music, nostalgia, love, friendship and raising money for a great charity.”
