A GROUP of cyclists got together at the weekend to remember women and girls murdered by men.
Councillors Caroline McAllister and Diane Docherty were joined by two other women as they cycled from Tyndrum via Glen Orchy, completing a 26-mile route back to Tyndrum.
It was one of a number of journeys around the UK as part of Ride for Murdered Women, a bid to raise awareness of those killed by men they knew.
Cllr McAllister said she was riding in memory of 14-year-old Caroline Glachan, who was found dead on the edge of the River Leven near Bonhill on August 25, 1996.
Police continue to appeal for information into the unsolved case.
Cllr McAllister said: “We each carried with us the memory of a woman or girl. I felt it was fitting to cycle in memory of Caroline Glachan, in the hope of raising awareness and keeping the abhorrent murder of Caroline at the forefront of people’s minds.
“We remembered the murdered women and girls as well as their families.
“Two or three women are killed every week in the UK at the hands of their partners, exes or someone known to them.
“In any other demographic this would be viewed as an epidemic.
“We see ridiculously light sentences awarded to men who stalk, terrorise, abuse and kill women, often justified by victim blaming.
“We need to talk about male violence. We need to invest in studies exploring why so many males are violent and we need to stop victim blaming.
“This issue should concern all of us and not just be an issue for females.”
