The rest of Scotland is set to follow the example of West Dunbartonshire.
Since August last year, pupils in the council area have access to sanitary products free of charge.
MSPs are considering introducing a law that would make this the case across Scotland.
The Bill was introduced partly in response to concerns about “period poverty”.
People can submit their views on the issue being discussed by the local government and communities committee.
All schools and colleges across Scotland would provide sanitary products free of charge under the proposed legislation.
And Holyrood could make other public organisations do the same.
The Government might cover the cost of providing the products.
James Dornan, committee convener, and SNP MSP, said: “No-one who needs period products should have to go without them because they can’t afford or access them.”
