ANNA SCULLION celebrated her 18th birthday by winning three titles in a single day at Craighelen Tennis Club’s championship finals on Saturday.

Anna retained her 2018 ladies’ singles crown with a 6-1, 6-0 win over her doubles partner Sarah Colman in the final – though the score didn’t quite reflect the story of the match, which featured many good points played and won by both players.

And the two finalists then paired up to win the ladies’ doubles championship, beating Jackie Morris and Sandra Juster 6-2, 6-3 in the final.

But Anna wasn’t finished there – not content with winning the singles and doubles prizes, she then teamed up with Dari Young to win the ladies’ ‘pot luck’ doubles crown too, courtesy of a 6-3, 6-4 final victory over Amanda Byles and Fiona Macpherson.

However, Anna’s three titles in a single day weren’t quite enough to match the total amassed by Alan Barbour, who emerged victorious in no fewer than four of the day’s men’s finals.

In the singles final, Alan saw off Scott Weir in a closely-contested match which went to a deciding set, with Scott shrugging off a nasty tumble on court in the men’s doubles final earlier in the day to prove a worthy opponent – though the reigning champion had just too much in his tank for his opponent, Alan eventually winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

That was Alan’s second championship title of the day after he teamed up with Thomas Welsh to beat Scott Weir and Kieran Martin 6-3, 6-3 in the men’s doubles final.

Title number three for Alan came in the mixed doubles, in which he and Sandra Juster beat Anna Scullion and Chris Bowman 6-4, 6-3; his fourth triumph was in the veteran men’s singles final, when he saw off the challenge of David Thorpe 6-0, 6-3.

The men’s pot luck doubles prize was won by David Thorpe and Andrew Roknic, who beat Kieran Martin and Tam Morris 7-5, 6-4, while the open pot luck doubles title went to Jackie Morris and Andrew Roknic, after they beat beat Tam Morris and Arthur Connolly 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.
