Scotland’s leading armed forces charity is searching for a new volunteer to lead the fundraising push in Dumbarton.

Gordon Michie, head of fundraising for Poppyscotland, said: “We’re looking for individuals, businesses, groups of friends, or community organisations that have good organisational skills to step forward to lead this year’s Appeal in Dumbarton.

“Last year, more than £4,700 was raised in the area, but, without your help, we will struggle to collect even a fraction of that amount and this will have a profoundly detrimental impact on the people we support.

“By volunteering for Poppyscotland you will be helping us transform the lives of veterans in Scotland, those currently serving, and their families who are in need.”

The money raised from the annual Poppy Appeal is used to support those affected by issues including poverty, mental health problems and disability.

Mr Michie said the role of area organiser promises a sense of pride, achievement and satisfaction.

Hugh Spencer, who holds the role for Balloch, is keen to highlight the benefits.

Hugh said: “Working with a great bunch of volunteers is rewarding, especially knowing we are helping to support the veteran community in Scotland.”

Hugh’s advice to anyone to hopeful volunteers is simple: “Just do it - no thought needed. You’ll be amazed by the support you receive.”

Area organisers can be individuals, groups, schools, cadet forces or rotary clubs.

They form a 450-strong team covering the whole of Scotland.
