Funds raised from the Dumbarton Police Open Day last month have been donated to charity.

Representatives from Y Sort It and Food for Thought received their cheques from Superintendent Kenny Armstrong and Police Constable Tracy Melvin on Tuesday, September 10.

PC Melvin said: “Both charities have expressed their sincere gratitude and thanks to all who contributed. They do fantastic work within our local community and will make great use of the donations.”

The charities split the £1320 total and a further £1600 was raised for the Care of Police Survivors (COPS) charity through sales of teddy bears, police outfits for kids and other police related memorabilia.

COPS is a UK registered charity dedicated to helping the families of officers who have lost their life on duty.

Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) also attended the event and raised £152 at their stall.

This brought the grand total of money raised for charity to £3072.

PC Melvin added: “We would like to express our sincere thanks to all those who attended and contributed to the success of the day.”
