A CITY cafe has been recognised in the House of Commons after reaching its 95th anniversary.

Jaconelli's Cafe on Maryhill Road was opened by Mario Jaconelli in 1924 and now local MPs have recognised their long-service achievement in Westminister.

In a motion, politcians paid tribute to the cafe's vintage 1950s decor and famous ice cream.

The cafe's role in famous TV and film productions was also recognised.

The motion which stated: "That this house recognises that this year marks the 95th anniversary of the iconic D'Jaconelli's Cafe in Glasgow; understands that the cafe was opened by Mario Jaconelli in 1924 and has been serving the community in Maryhill and across the north of the city ever since; appreciates that customers enjoy delicious hot food and home-made artisan ice cream in the unmatched surroundings of the cafe's traditional 1950s interior; recognises the inimitable character of the cafe has attracted people from all over Glasgow and the around the world; notes that the cafe has been used as a film and television location for famous productions including Trainspotting starring Ewan McGregor, Carla's Song with Robert Carlyle and Tutti Frutti featuring Robbie Coltrane; congratulations the team for their commitment to maintaining an authentic old-fashioned cafe experience for all of its visitors and the local community and wishes D'jaconelli's all the very best for many years to come."
