There could be a new community pharmacy coming to Alexandria.

Mitchell & Pollock Ltd are in discussions with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to open a new chemist at 19 Brown Street, Haldane.

The company, which already runs a pharmacy in Stirling, believes there is demand for a new one in the area, which it intends to call Mill of Haldane Pharmacy.

Before Mitchell & Pollock Ltd submits a formal application, a joint consultation exercise is being carried out seeking the views of locals.

A questionnaire has been shared on social media for those close to the proposed premises, or those who might use the new community pharmacy.

A Facebook page has been set-up for the business and the owners posted: “We are two community pharmacists who currently have one pharmacy in the Stirling area.

“We have applied to open this new pharmacy in Haldane with the hope of employing local staff and engaging with the local community in any way we can.”

Commenting on social media, Lynda Kilpatrick said: “This is great, it’s been a long time since there was a pharmacy on Brown Street.”

Margaret Newton said: “About time we had a pharmacy in the Haldane. Good luck.”

All views submitted will be used in a “consultation analysis report” which will be taken into account by NHSGGC’s Pharmacy Practices Committee which decides the outcome of an application.

The consultation is looking for opinion on the current access to services people normally get from a community pharmacy in the area.

It is also asking if the services provided by chemists already in the area are adequate to meet the needs of residents and others.

Mitchell & Pollock Ltd have defined an area which they consider best describes the “neighbourhood” where the premises are situated and where services would be provided to.

The consultation will close at 5pm on January 28, 2020.
