PENSIONERS in Dumbarton and the Vale enjoyed a coffee morning with a twist.

The Scottish SPCA welcomed seniors at their Milton animal rescue and rehoming centre on Tuesday, October 22.

It was the second O.A.Tea event the animal welfare charity has held, after the successful launch last month.

A spokesperson for the centre said: “It was a lovely, sociable morning with guests meeting reptiles and domestic animals alike.”

Elderly residents enjoyed meeting Rex the bearded dragon, and Winnie, the black cat.

Kim Mackrell, assistant manager of the centre, said: “We started our O.A.Tea event as we know that many older people may not be able to have pets of their own, or they may have lost one recently.

“Animals can have positive mental benefits on those around them. They bring so much happiness and from our experience, a lot of laughter.

“These events are also of huge benefit to the animals in our care to learn socialisation skills and interact with new people. I’m sure they look forward to them as much as we do.”
