VICKI Perry struck a last-minute equaliser as Loch Lomond extended their unbeaten run in West District Division One to four matches with a 1-1 draw away to Glasgow University’s third XI on Saturday.
The visitors showed plenty of grit and determination and defended well against a strong and fast Glasgow University team, despite losing an early goal to their hosts.
Every Loch Lomond player dug deep and it showed on the pitch.
Despite the University’s fast pace and possession of the ball, they couldn’t secure another goal, thanks to goalkeeper Elaine Brown, a deserved winner of both teams’ Loch Lomond ‘player of the match’ accolade, and strong defending from the whole team.

Strikers Kirsty Cordner and Heather Cullen got back to defend as well as pushing high to take any opportunity that came the visitors’ way, but the score stayed at 1-0 at half time.
After a motivational half time chat from coach Rosie McColgan, Loch Lomond came back fighting in the second half, always seeking any opportunity to get into the opposition D.
Eliza Ritchie, Vanesa Sabala and Kirsten Bruce kept the tempo up in midfield and played some seamless triangles with the ball being fed from Sue Aikman, Zoe Canty, Evie Harkins and Vicki Perry at the back.
With only a few minutes to go Loch Lomond were still 1-0 down, but that didn’t stop any of their players from keeping the work rate at a maximum – and the visitors’ efforts paid off when a short corner was won in the Glasgow University D and Perry played the ball in to Sophia McDermott, later chosen as runner-up for Loch Lomond’s player of the match prize, at the top of the D.

She in turn played it back to Perry at the post, who perfectly finished off to gain an equaliser in the final minute.
This was the toughest match of the season so far for Loch Lomond but they stepped up to the mark and deserved the draw to keep their unbeaten run going.
This Saturday, November 9, both Loch Lomond teams are at home, with the first XI taking on Uddingston 2 and the second XI hosting Ardrossan 2, followed by a cup match on Sunday.
