Brace yourselves for Loch Lomond's first ever Santa Splash.

To raise much needed cash for a rescue boat, volunteers are invited to dress up as Father Christmas and take to the chilly waters.

Loch Lomond Shores (LLS) has announced the new event set to benefit the Loch Lomond Rescue Boat.

The Santa Splash will take place between 12pm and 2pm on the Sunday, November 24.

All funds raised will go towards supporting the vital rescue boat and efforts to keep the loch safe for everyone.

Audrey Calder from LLS said: “The Santa Splash is really a bit of fun – just like a Santa Dash but in the loch instead of on land. The whole idea is that people will come along and take a brief dip in the loch dressed up in their Christmas hats and outfits to raise money for this deserving local charity.

“We’re asking people to go online and sign up to take part. It costs £5 to take part and the money goes straight to the Loch Lomond Rescue Boat.

"For those that don’t fancy running in to the loch in their bikinis and speedos, Loch Lomond Leisure have kindly donated wetsuit hire at an additional £5 with all proceeds again going directly to the charity. They’ll also be donating life boat cover and kayak paddlers to make sure everyone is super safe during the splash.

“We’ve got a maximum of 300 places available for participants this year so I’d urge anyone looking to take part to book quickly to avoid disappointment.

“Obviously because it’s so cold, we’ll have heated changing rooms on the beach so everyone can get warm straight after their dip – no matter how brief it is.

"And, everyone taking part will get a medal to prove they’ve braved the loch in November and supported the Loch Lomond Rescue Boat.”

A spokesperson from Loch Lomond Rescue Boat is delighted at the fund raising efforts of Loch Lomond Shores.

They said: “It’s great to be the recipient of the funds raised through this event and we’d ask local people to support us by taking part. We’ll be there on the day to enjoy the antics but, as always, may be called away at any moment but hey, that’s what we do.”
