FOUR illegal workers have been identified after raids on businesses in West Dunbartonshire.

Police Scotland and the Home Office Immigration Enforcement carried out a joint operation across Dumbarton and Clydebank nail bars on Thursday, November 14.

Officers descended on Hollywood Nail Spa in Clydebank's Alexander Street, Five Star Nails and Spa in Dumbarton's High Street and Vintage Hair/USA Nails in Clyde Shopping Centre.

At Hollywood Nail Spa, immigration checks identified a 39-year-old man who entered the UK illegally and had no permission to work.

An illegal worker was identified at Vintage Hair/USA Nails inside the Clyde Shopping Centre.

He was detained pending his removal from the UK.

At Five Stars Nails and Spa, a 42-year-old woman was found to have entered the UK illegally.

She has been ordered to report to immigration enforcement regularly while her case is progressed.

And at Vintage Hair/USA Nails, two men aged 22 and 23 were identified as having entered the UK illegally with no permissions to work.

They too must report to immigration enforcement on a regular basis.

All workers were found to have been from Vietnam.

An illegal worker was detained at Hollywood Nail Spa in Clydebank.

A Home Office spokesperson confirmed that both Vintage Hair/USA Nails and Five Star Nails and Spa could face a penalty of up to £20,000 per illegal worker found unless they can demonstrate that appropriate document checks were carried out.

A spokesman for Police Scotland added: "Police are conducting a joint operation in the Clydebank area on Thursday, 14 November with partners including the Home Office.

"Inquiries remain ongoing."

It's understood officers also carried out enquiries at the Rose Nails bar within Clyde Shopping Centre.

However, after questioning by police and Home Office officials they were not found to have been of interest.

The checks come less than a month after the bodies of 39 Vietnamese nationals were found in a refrigerated lorry in Essex on October 23.

The driver of the lorry, Maurice Robinson, was charged with manslaughter, people trafficking, immigration and money laundering offences.
