Pupils celebrated the 60th anniversary of Aitkenbar Primary School recently.

Although they are now located in a brand new building as part of the Bellsmyre Campus, the original school opened in August 1959.

To mark the milestone anniversary, pupils from all years performed a concert of famous songs from throughout the decades since their school was first constructed.

The primary ones kicked things off with a performance of George Ezra’s Shotgun from the current decade.

I’ve Got a Feeling by the Black-eyed Peas was chosen from the 00s, and sung by primary two.
And primary three performed a medley of songs from the 90s.

Pupils from P4 then did the Monster Mash from the 1960s, while the P5s did Elvis Pressley classic Jailhouse Rock from the 1950s.

The 1980s hit Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr. got the Aitkenbar treatment from the primary sixes, and finally, the show was topped off by primary seven who sang 70s smash, Video killed the radio star.

A spokeswoman for the school said: “The concert was very well attended with standing room only. The show also included a presentation of photographs from 1959 to the present day, looking at the old Aitkenbar and its transformation into the beautiful new school within the Bellsmyre Campus.

“The presentations can be viewed on the school website.”
