VISITORS to the Maid of the Loch on St Andrew’s Day were treated to “strum-thing” special thanks to a visit by Lomond Ukulele Orchestra.

The orchestra kept visitors entertained by performing two shows at a family-fun event on the legendary ship which is under going extensive renovation at Balloch pier.

The Saturday event celebrated the Maid’s restored steam engines being brought back to life as a prime example of Scottish engineering.

As well as the ukulele orchestra, organisers had arranged loads of hand-on activities to entertain families supporting the special day which celebrated the cultural and industrial heritage of the area.

To promote the party mood, the first 50 visitors were given a free St Andrew’s cupcake before the band struck up with some catchy tunes.

Organisers said the St Andrew’s Day event was the last public event in what had been an amazing year for the restoration work on the ship.
