A MAN accused of making abusive remarks related to disability has been cleared.

Thomas Clancy, 30, of Garscadden View, Clydebank, went on trial last week at Dumbarton Sheriff Court charged with making the remarks during a phone call to a woman on September 16, last year.

The mother of the alleged victim told the court she was at home in Alsatian Avenue after 8pm when there had been phone calls and texts from Mr Clancy.

She said he was “aggressive on the phone and he was determined to speak” to her daughter, with whom there had been an “on and off” relationship. But she said she could not remember many of the details other than Mr Clancy being “angry”. Police were called.

Under cross examination, the witness was reminded she told cops, “I don’t think it was anything threatening”.

The witness replied: “I don’t know. I have a lot on my plate.”

Her daughter, aged 19, told the trial she didn’t remember the incident “very well” and said she had had Facebook messages but didn’t speak to Mr Clancy directly.

The Crown then withdrew the libel and Sheriff John Hamilton acquitted Mr Clancy.
