A CLYDEBANK duo are strictly the best after winning a top dance contest with just four weeks of preparation.

Ellie Gillan and Will Logan are street dance and hiphop performers normally, but they decided to take on the Strictly Kids competition in aid of the STV Children’s Appeal earlier this month.

The 11-year-olds took the top prize with four 10s from the judges, as well as winning a standing ovation with their amazing performance.

They danced to “Pencil Full of Lead” by Paolo Nutini, with guidance from their professional coach Maria Oakes.

Ellie competed last year but this year she took on a new partner in Will – though he was reluctant at first.

Ellie’s mum, Jacqualene, told the Post: “The street dance they have been doing for a few years – strictly is new to them.

“They picked up Latin and ballroom - they loved it.

“It’s more about raising money for a good cause, especially this close to Christmas.”

Ellie, a pupil at Coggan Park Primary in Bearsden, said: “It was a new style but I liked seeing everyone happy and raising money for kids.”

Will’s mum, Mandy, said the Goldenhill Primary pupil has been doing hiphop for four years and Jacqualene contacted her asking if Will might be up for something different.

She said Will initially didn’t want to dance with a stranger and doubted he could pick it up so quickly.

But after the first week under their belt, he got more confident.

Mandy, from Duntocher, said: “They practiced like mad for those four weeks. I was so proud.

“They were just as surprised as anyone else to win but they definitely deserved it. I think they will be invited back next year.”

She added: “He will not be giving up hiphop though.”

The pair normally dance with Chris Parry’s BKS dance group based in St Eunan’s Church but got the use of Faifley Parish Church for their strictly performance to help raise thousands for charity.

As well as trophies, Ellie and Will also got a holiday voucher as a prize.

Funds from the STV Children’s Appeal go towards providing practical help like food and warm clothes, creating opportunities for training and employability, and enabling social and emotional support.
