Santa hats off to all the staff working at the Vale of Leven Hospital on Christmas day.

While everyone else is tucking into turkey and all the trimmings, they will be caring for patients over the course of the day and night - and spreading Christmas cheer along the way.

At the hospital, approximately 200 Christmas dinners will be dished up to patients and staff.

Catherine Wonnacott, ANP in the minor injuries unit, has spent 30 years at the Vale.

She has worked loads of Christmas shifts, usually one on and one off.

Catherine said: “There’s always a great atmosphere in MIU. Hopefully people won’t injure themselves, however we are here if needed.”

Gillian Ramsay, site bed manager, has worked on Christmas day a few times during her seven years at the Vale.

She said she loves the atmosphere during the festive period as its "very nice and relaxed".

While at home, her hubby is in charge of cooking dinner - and looking their kids, so good luck with all of that.

Helen Keiller, domestic assistant, tends to work either Christmas or new year.

She said: “Everyone is always happy and it’s a nice feeling working on Christmas.

“Mum cooks the dinner every year and when I’m finished I visit my sons and grandsons."
