Athletes of all ages and abilities lined up on January 2 for the Shortbread Run at Balloch Park.

The event was started by Vale athletics legend, Lachie Stewart, who passed on some tips to runners before the starting gun

Organiser Maurice Donohue, of West Dunbartonshire Athletics Club, said: “It was very apt for Lachie to start the run, as 2020, is the 50th anniversary and landmark celebration of him winning the Commonwealth Games gold medal for the 10,000 metres from 1970. No other Scottish athlete has managed to replicate this feat to date.”

More than 300 participants took part in the two-mile run, which began with a warm-up which included everyone singing the Shortbread Song.

Maurice added: “A big thank you to the volunteers; Moira, Bob, David, Charlotte and Ruth, who marshalled, and supported the participants, as well as our very kind sponsors, Walkers.”

The Run‘n’Park – 5k and 2km, takes place at Balloch Park every Saturday starting at 9.30am.
