A new community cycling project has been launched in Bonhill.

Cycling Valley aims to promote safe and sustainable travel throughout the area.

Following on from a series of successful "Dr Bike" sessions last year, the new project will be running a series of guided rides beginning in February.

The rides are led by experienced volunteer cycle leaders trained and sponsored by British Cycling.

They have been organising a small number of rides through the autumn and winter to develop a suitable programme for 2020 to roll out to the wider community.

Jack Fordy, of Bonhill Community Council and project founder, said: “The rides are aimed initially at getting anyone who may lack a bit of confidence, don’t quite know where to ride safely or just want some company on their rides”.

Jack said the programme will be developed during the summer and will have a mixture of easy short level rides and more challenging rides further afield, travelling through more varied terrain while always staying on safe and suitable cycling routes.

He added: "There will also be plenty of time for a cake and coffee stop and no one will be left behind."

All routes are risk assessed and ridden by at least one leader no more than seven days before the ride takes place.
