A DUMBARTON man who assaulted his own mum by spitting in her face has been jailed for four months.

James Marshall, of Cumbrae Crescent South, launched the attack on Hogmanay after turning up to his mother’s house while intoxicated.

Dumbarton Sheriff Court heard on Tuesday that Marshall attempted to get into the property in Leven Court at around 9.15pm on December 31 last year but was refused entry as he was clearly under the influence.

Friends and neighbours then attended the scene and an exchange of words followed, after which Marshall tried to spit at his mum and another woman.

Marshall’s solicitor, Scott Adair, told the hearing his client had expressed “remorse and disgust” at how he had behaved and said apologies had been made.

Sheriff William Gallacher told Marshall that he had “a very unpleasant” criminal record and sentenced him to four months in prison, backdated to January 3, 2020.

The Sheriff added: “This was an utterly despicable offence.

“He is the one who has to fix things and he knows that.”
