Storm Dennis is set to batter Dumbarton and the Vale with 70mph wind and heavy rain this weekend.

The Met Office reports the strong wind will be paired with up to 140mm (5.5inches) of rain and even possible snow across Scotland.

Flood warnings have been issued, yet again, across the central belt with heavy rain and severe gales forecast for much of the weekend across Dumbarton and the Vale. A wind warning will remain in place for Sunday.

Dennis is the fourth named storm of the year, making its way to Scotland right on the back of Storm Ciara, which caused havoc around the country. Heavy rain resulted in local flooding.

Storm Dennis could be worse than last week’s Storm Ciara, according to the Environmental Agency, due to rain falling on already saturated ground. The Met Office announced “flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely”.

It also warned wind gusts could cause power cuts and damage buildings.

Travel is likely to be affected over the weekend, with floods expected on the roads.

Motorways are most likely to be congested so drivers are urged to plan and take more time for their journeys. Bus and train services are likely to be affected with a likely delay on bridges and exposed routes – especially for high sided vehicles.

Air and ferry transport may also see some delays.
