A teen from Dumbarton is making airwaves by pursuing her ambition to be a radio DJ.

Megan Lee wants to follow in the footsteps of a long line of successful Scottish DJs by becoming a full-time presenter.

The Our Lady and Saint Patrick’s High School pupil has already taken steps in the right direction, thanks to a placement with the Bauer Media Group at Clyde 1 radio station where she has a foundation apprenticeship in creative and digital media.

Megan, 17, produces her own podcast about Radio Clyde’s mental health awareness week.

She said: “I’ve enjoyed making new friends and learning all these new skills which can be utilised in lots of media jobs.

“I’m hoping to stay in radio because I really enjoy this work.

"The foundation apprenticeship has helped me decide this is the field I’d like to build my career in.

"I now have editing abilities as well as podcast production which I can offer to an employer.”

Bauer Academy project manager Martina Salveta believes Megan and her fellow students, who also train at West College Scotland, have slotted in perfectly as members of the team.

She said: “I love having Megan here. I wish there had been something like a foundation apprenticeship when I was at school.

"The students are treated as adults and have learned so many new skills.”

West College's apprenticeship manager Sharron Rodger said: “It’s fantastic to see Megan thriving in her work placement.

"Clyde 1 has made her an integral part of the team.”

The youngsters' achievements will be celebrated along with other apprentices as part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week, which is co-ordinated by Skills Development Scotland (SDS) and runs from March 2 to 6.

SDS chief Damien Yeates said demand from employers continues to drive the development and growth of Scottish apprenticeships.

He added: “Looking towards a future increasingly disrupted by technological and societal changes, work-based learning has never been more relevant for supporting people into highly productive and sustainable jobs.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Government is on track to meet its target of 30,000 new apprenticeships starts in the next year.
