RESIDENTS of Dumbarton and the Vale can now track the gritter vehicles across the area.

The "Trunk Road Gritter Tracker" website provides live tracking of gritters on the trunk road network.

It displays the current location of gritters and a trail with an age range for where gritters have previously passed along the trunk routes across Scotland.

Across the country, there are 208 vehicles to spread salt and plough snow - and some with names like Lew-ice Capaldi, Chilly Connolly, and Gritty Gritty Bang Bang.

S3 pupil Ross Wardrop at Our Lady and St Patricks came up with the name Gritty Gritty Bang Bang after pupils across the local authority were asked to name the council vehicles.

Other winners included Darth Salter (Amy McColl, S5), The Gritonator (Sophie Deeley, P5), Auntie Slip (Alicia Glasgow, P5) and Gritty McGritterson (Eryn Fabiani, P7).
