TWO deaths in the space of a couple of months in Dalmuir Park has prompted extra fencing to be installed.

The body of a 42-year-old man was found in Duntocher Burn, which runs through the park, on December 9, 2019.

He was recovered from the water near the fence line of the Dalmuir rail line and next to the West Dunbartonshire Council yard.

On February 5, the body of a 45-year-old man was found, also in the water, near the footbridge crossing over the burn, according to police.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Post mortem examinations have been carried out however both were inconclusive, although, there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.”

The identities of the men have not been released by police.

A spokeswoman for West Dunbartonshire Council told the Post: “We continually review operations at all of our greenspaces, and as part of this we have installed additional fencing as a further precaution at Dalmuir Park.”

Existing fencing was improved running down the the rail fence line.

Local councillor Danny Lennie expressed his condolences to the loved ones of both men.

He said: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the two men who tragically died in the park.”

Cllr Lennie added: “That area of the park has always been difficult under foot, slippy when it rains or freezing. Having said that, I have never heard of any concerns or complaints, in fact the walk is very well used.

“We do not know the circumstances of these tragedies, but if both men took a dizzy spell, or simply tripped, then there would be nothing to prevent them from falling into the water.

“How you prevent this in the future I am not sure.”

He added: “In the last three months Dalmuir has had more than its fair share of tragic deaths, anything we can do to prevent more tragic deaths we should do.”

Gil Paterson, Clydebank’s MSP, said: “Unfortunately, accidents will happen and we must do all we can to minimise them by always taking action that protects the public.”
