A HELENSBURGH primary school pupil has given a helping hand to those less fortunate by collecting Easter eggs for the area’s food bank.

Benji Rankin, who attends Colgrain Primary, has been gathering in chocolate donations since the start of March and handed them over to volunteers at the Helensburgh and Lomond Foodbank last week.

The kind-hearted 11-year-old had set an initial target of 30 eggs but ended up collecting a grand total of 105.

Mum Charlene told the Advertiser: “I’m not really sure how it all came about, we were just talking about the food bank in general and how they supply lunches to children through half terms and that’s when he mentioned about collecting Easter eggs for the other children.

“He asked his friends and I popped a message on to my Facebook wall and the local armed forces page.

“The local community have been amazing, along with family, in sending up donations.

“He’s absolutely overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity.

“We’re mega proud of him, we’ve always taught him the importance of being kind and helping those not as lucky as he is.”
