RESIDENTS in Old Kilpatrick have said they are “disgusted” at the people who have been flytipping outside the local recycling centre.

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) decided to shut the doors of Erskine Ferry Road Recycling Centre – but this hasn’t stopped people from dumping their rubbish.

Local residents have been sharing photos via social media, including one of a large knife that was left lying on the ground.

One person wrote: “Absolutely disgusted at some folk dumping their rubbish. Dumping your s**t is not an essential journey.

“Stop being selfish because you want to get rid of your crap because you are bored during lockdown and you don’t want it cluttering your house anymore.

“You are encouraging a health hazard when we don’t need it.”

Action Old Kilpatrick, which aims to enhance the environment of the village, has slammed the behaviour on their Facebook page.

A spokesperson told the Reporter: “We have been in touch with WDC who have assured us that the fly tipping at the Ferry Road depot is cleared daily. We strive to support the good work of the cleansing department at WDC. We need them, especially during lockdown.”

A WDC spokeswoman added: “It is really disappointing to see flytipping outside our recycling centres. This waste is dangerous for our employees to dispose of, and is also taking up resources which are extremely limited at this time.

“We are working hard to maintain our waste collection service, despite facing significant challenges due to Covid-19, and would urge all residents to continue to support us by disposing of their waste responsibly in grey bins or storing large items securely until the service can resume.”
