THE Scottish Retail Consortium (SRC) has welcomed the Scottish Government’s decision to provide 100 per cent rates relief to Scotland’s retail, hospitality and leisure sectors – along with Ayrshire’s key aviation industry – for a full year.

The 100 per cent rates relief will last from to March 31, 2021 and assist a wide range of businesses.

The measures are part of the Scottish Government’s £2.2 billion plan to support businesses as they experience the impact of COVID-19.

SRC director David Lonsdale said the move was a “vital shot in the arm for a sector facing enormous uncertainty”.

Local MSP Kenneth Gibson said: “North Ayrshire has hundreds of businesses which will be relieved at this news. The SNP Government has responded quickly to the changing needs of this important sector.”
