NOISE relating to a domestic stereo or radio is one of the most complained about bug bears for residents in Dumbarton and the Vale, the Reporter can reveal.

Figures uncovered by a Freedom of Information request also showed commercial noise complaints provided the joint highest earache for locals.

And one street in Alexandria is understood to be one of the noisiest after attracting more than 19 complaints for various violations.

Russell Drive received the tidal waves of noise complaints with dog barking - and general dog noise - attracting 13 complaints, seven of which were in July 2017.

The street also reported five issues with domestic stereo or radio noise and one complaint relating to musical instrument noise.

Residents near Alexandria’s Main Street complained on 10 occasions about domestic stereo or radio noise between November 2017 and March 2020.

Clairinsh, Balloch, was also one of the worst offenders with seven recorded noise complaints between November 2017 and December 2019 related to entertainment, industrial and construction site noise.

Meanwhile, the railway sound at Bowling train station, near Dumbarton Road, was complained about 12 times between March 2018 and September 2019.

There have been a total of 413 noise complaints locally relating to G82 (Dumbarton), G83 (Vale of Leven) and G60 (Bowling and Old Kilpatrick) postcodes between March 2017 and March 2020.

In the West Dunbartonshire area as a whole, 717 noise complains were recorded.

The complaints are recorded in categories, with commercial noise complaints being cited in 66 cases, entertainment 41, “others” 40, industrial 37, dog barking 33, domestic 33, construction sites 20, railway 15, vibration nine, and traffic nine.

In relation to specific domestic noise complains, stereo or radio noise was cited in 66 cases, others 17, musical instruments 12, intruder alarm six (and seven commercial), laminate flooring seven, DIY six, appliances (e.g. washing machine) five, and car alarm one.

Other high offending area for noise complaints were Riverside Lane, Dumbarton, where five complaints were received relating to a comercial noise between May 2018 and September 2018.

Construction on the town’s Church Street attracted complaints in November and December 2019, when the sheriff court building was undergoing work.

In a more unusual complaint, WDC was contacted twice within one month over noise complaints relating to laminate flooring at a property in Alexandria’s Turnbull Avenue.
