A GROUP of Dumbarton churches has set up a new community project to bring volunteers and residents who are socially isolated or vulnerable together during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Dumbarton Community Hope initiative, organised by Dumbarton Churches Together, has the aim of “Supporting Acts of Kindness”.
Volunteers are offering a telephone befriending service, with calls up to twice a week, as well as collecting shopping, picking up prescriptions, posting mail and walking dogs.
Heather Thorp, a volunteer co-ordinator for Dumbarton Community Hope, said: “Many people are unable to go out just now, and large numbers will feel socially isolated.
“We are passionate about demonstrating practical help and are delighted to have over 25 volunteers come forward in the last two weeks – and the number keeps growing.”

Each volunteer is required to give details of two referees, and these are checked out to ensure their suitability for the role.
