POLICE in Dumbarton have listed steps residents can take to reduce the chances of becoming a victim of fraud.
The advice comes after fraudsters have been targeting people with emails, texts, telephone calls and WhatsApp messages offering advice and treatment for coronavirus.
Scammers are setting up fake websites selling products and offering “cures” or testing kits, as well as setting up bogus websites asking for donations for victims.

Police are reminding residents to be vigilant and on guard if someone turns up unexpectedly. Always ask to see an identity card but don’t rely on them as they can be faked – phone the company to verify their identity.
People are also told never to provide any personal data such as full name, address and date of birth, because scammers can use this information to steal an identity. For confidential support call Victim Support Scotland on 0800 160 1985.
