A UNION is calling on the Scottish Government and COSLA to recognise the financial and emotional toll faced by local government workers who are delivering vital services during the pandemic.
Unison is also campaigning for sustained long term investment to protect jobs, a reduction in wage inequalities, and for local government workers to be engaged in shaping the lockdown legacy.
The union has written to Kate Forbes, secretary for finance, and Councillor Gail MacGregor, of COSLA, calling on them to reward local government workers who have been delivering vital services for the national effort to defeat coronavirus.
It also wants a review of all local government jobs which have changed as a result of Covid -19 and is seeking to consolidate the Scottish living wage to ensure all the workforce get a wage that can properly support their families.
