A rescue team using ropes saved a youth trapped in a gorge in Alexandria on Thursday night.

The alarm was raised mid evening when the young man became stuck on a steep embankment near Millburn Road.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) rushed to the scene as fears grew for the youth's safety.

In dramatic scenes, rescue teams hauled him to safety and he was taken to hospital.

A SFRS spokesperson told the Reporter: “We were alerted at 7.36pm on Thursday, May 28 to reports of a young male trapped down an embankment near Millburn Road, Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire.

“Operations Control mobilised to the scene a number of resources, including rope rescue teams, to bring the casualty to safety.

“The man was taken to hospital by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Crews left after making the area safe.”

Police confirmed they had been called to the scene by the ambulance service and fire and rescue.

No information was available on the youth's condition.
