A DUMBARTON supermarket will now offer home deliveries and a click and collect service to help customers access essential items during the coronavirus pandemic.

Morrisons, on Glasgow Road, has been granted a licence from West Dunbartonshire Council to offer these services, as part of its campaign to support customers during the pandemic.

The licence application was discussed via remote video conference on Wednesday.

Richard Taylor, who represents Morrisons, said: “Morrisons plans to roll out their home delivery have been accelerated by the current situation. The company wants to be able to serve as many customers as possible while promoting social distancing.

“They want to be able to offer home deliveries as soon as possible as click and collect is now available. This is part of their Feed the Nation campaign.”

Despite being allowed to legally deliver alcohol between 6am and midnight, Morrisons will only deliver between 10am and 10pm to ensure that the sale of alcoholic drinks is carried out within that time frame.

The transaction will be completed on delivery.

Mr Taylor added: “The company’s structure is so that any shopping with alcohol contained in it will fit within that 12-hour window.

“We also ensure that challenge 25 takes place on the doorstep or upon collection. Those who are operating have exactly the same training as the check out operators.

“Any age restricted product is removed from the shopping if an unacceptable ID is not produced.

“We are aware this is in the over provision area and I would argue this is of benefit to the community as Morrisons are committed to feeding the nation and ensure that those who are vulnerable or who can’t go out can have their shopping needs made available to them.”

The application was agreed unanimously.
