WORK on new build housing developments across Dumbarton and The Vale will continue as lockdown measures ease.

Following updated guidance from the Scottish Government and easing of lockdown restrictions, the sites – including in Aitkenbar, Dumbarton Harbour, St Andrew’s in Clydebank and Creveul Court in Alexandria – can now be prepared to open during Phase One.

While building work cannot officially start again until the country is moved to Phase Two, WDC’s building partners have now begun putting additional safety measures in place, including steps to allow employees to physically distance and improve hygiene.

The temporary halt of work due to the coronavirus pandemic means the new build programme has been delayed and could be delayed fully by approximately four months. Updates on new programme timescales will be shared as soon as possible, the Council has said.

Councillor Diane Docherty, convenor of housing and communities, said: “We are continuing to follow government guidance and are working behind the scenes to ensure work can recommence as soon as it is safe to do so.

“Work is underway to consider the timescales for the programme, but in the meantime if any residents are interested in applying for one of these lovely new homes then please get in touch.

“We are committed to delivering properties that our residents are proud to call their home, which are high quality, affordable and also environmentally friendly. That aim has not changed, although the deadline for completion and moving in may have to be extended slightly.”

Councillor Caroline McAllister, vice convener of housing and communities added: “It will be great to see things moving again on our sites. Work is underway to ensure that they are as safe as they can possibly be when we do get to that stage, including the introduction of physical distancing.

“All of these developments will bring a great deal of benefit to areas surrounding them, and the facilities on offer mean the sites are bound to be popular.”

The sites are part of the Council’s plans to deliver 1000 new affordable homes in the area by March 2021, in line with Scottish Government targets.
