A “FAST-CASUAL” chain has opened its first delivery-only kitchen in Sussex.

Burger brand Shake Shack and takeaway app Deliveroo have teamed up to operate a secret “super kitchen” in Brighton, allowing the city’s foodies to order burgers and milkshakes from the chain for the first time.

The American burger bar’s 16 UK restaurants have been closed since coronavirus lockdown in March.

But now it is expanding its reach into the city as a delivery-only service in Deliveroo’s “Editions” kitchen.

Editions chief Daniel Harris said he was delighted the chain was finally coming to Brighton.

“Shake Shack is hugely popular across London,” he said.

“So we’re delighted that we are able to help bring their delicious burgers to residents in Brighton.

“Deliveroo is all about bringing more choice to customers.”

The burger brand started as a humble hot dog cart in New York City’s Madison Square Park in 2001.

But it has since become one of the fastest-growing restaurant chains in the world, operating more than 250 sites across the globe.

Arguably its most famous fare is its shakes, renowned as some of the best in the industry.

But its signature dish is the ShackBurger, a simple but delicious beef patty with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a secret cheese sauce, often served with crinkle-cut fries.

The chain also sells chicken burgers, fries, hot dogs, frozen custards and beer and wine.

Now Brighton residents will be able to enjoy the chain’s fare for the first time in the city.

“Shake Shack, one of the biggest players in the American fast-casual game, has launched its first ever site in Brighton, giving locals their first taste of one of the US’s most iconic burgers,” a Deliveroo spokeswoman said.

“All the Shake Shack classics will be available to order via Deliveroo, including their signature ShackBurger, and crinkle-cut fries with their legendary cheese sauce. Shake Shack has launched in 16 UK locations to date.”
