POLICE have launched a probe after a man was assaulted outside a bar in East Kilbride. 

The force said the 25-year-old sustained injuries which are not life-threatening.  

It happened in Rockhampton Avenue in the South Lanarkshire town on Monday night.

The Westwood Bar, situated nearby, told customers on Facebook that staff were assisting police.

In a statement, the bar said: "Our staff today were also helping to assist the police with an extremely unfortunate incident which occurred outwith the premises, above the square.

"The staff helped assist with the incident and people involved. Enquiries are still ongoing. Stay safe everyone."

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Police attended Rockhampton Avenue, East Kilbride around 5.55 pm on Monday, July 6, following the report of an assault.

"A 25-year-old male sustained injuries which were not life-threatening and enquiries are currently ongoing."
