An IT and technology charity have been virtually supporting the residents during the difficult times of the pandemic in Dumbarton and the Vale

Bellsmyre Digital Community have set up a range of services to help residents who have been finding lockdown and social isolation difficult.

The organisation have set up a Facebook page to share daily posts and videos for all ages group to entertain, educate and provide information.

Every day they post a variety of music, reading, craft tips, forums, educational forums and special events such as Mental Health Awareness Week to remind the community to remain positive about the future once lockdown eases.

Kathleen Smith has been the project manager of the organisation for six years. She can't believe how well received the services had online.

She told the Reporter:"Every day we are getting around 300 hits on Facebook which can then increase to 500 at the weekend. We are thrilled to be able to reach so many people and hopefully lift their spirits."

"We are trying to find ways to deliver what we do differently. I knew that the services we provide for the community was more of a need than a want."

The charity have also created reusable face shields from 3D printers which have been quality controlled approved by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. They have made the shields available to key workers and businesses to help keep them safe and protected.

In the meantime they have also created virtual befriending service to check in on the older members, however the organisation opened the service up to younger aged users after there was a demand for it.

Kathleen strongly believes that the peer befriending service is a fantastic opportunity for the older and younger members to come together and share their stories.

She said: "Our younger members seemed to be suffering more during this pandemic. There is a clear difference between choosing to be in your bedroom and having to stay in your bedroom.

"The members have been sharing past experiences with each other over phone, email and Skype which is amazing. It is great to see they come together as a support unit."

Bellsmyre Digital Community are always looking for individuals to either donate money to help provide equipment or a few spare hours to provide lifeline advice for residents in the area.
