WEST Dunbartonshire Council has welcomed news of “lifeline funding” from the UK Government for the arts and culture as the sector “faces a cliff edge”.
Funding of £97million has been made available to the Scottish Government, which will help to protect vital facilities and jobs across West Dunbartonshire including those in Clydebank Museum.
In total, the UK Government are providing more than £1.5billion for the UK’s museums, galleries, theatres, independent cinemas, heritage sites and music venues.

A council spokeswoman said: “Additional investment in culture is always welcome and as a council we will await further information from government about how this funding can be accessed.”
Regional Conservative MSP Maurice Corry added: “In my region alone, we have vital facilities such as the Scottish Submarine Centre in Helensburgh, the Denny Ship Museum in Dumbarton and the excellent Clydebank Museum with its unique history of shipbuilding and engineering on the famous River Clyde which is a real gem.”
