A DUMBARTON local has captured the wonderful moment a mother Goldfinch fed its new-born.

The photos of nature in action were taken by Phil Dawson, a local photographer who caught the two birds, which are native to Europe, North Africa, and western and central Asia in his garden.

Phil told the Reporter: “We have the bird feeders and bird table placed at the kitchen window which is an ideal spot for seeing the birds coming and going throughout the day. At the last count we have about 25 different species coming into the garden for food, water and to seek shelter.

“I wouldn’t class myself as a birdwatcher but there’s something fascinating about watching the birds going about their daily lives and watching them bring their young to the garden to feed.

“Ideal bird food in this area to try to entice finches in the garden are nyjer seed and sunflower seeds, and although the birds aren’t too fussy about where the food comes from in the feeders, we do try to buy via the RSPB who do much to help wildlife in this country.”
