A THUG who attempted to rob a dog walker with a knife was jailed on Thursday for 20 months.

James Wilson, 21, threatened Raymond Carvill, 44, with a kitchen knife outside a Glasgow Tesco store on April 7 this year.

Wilson was arrested and released before being caught by police on April 26 in a takeaway with a smaller knife.

Wilson pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the unlawful possession of a knife as well as assault with intent to rob.

The court heard Mr Carvill was approached by Wilson at the Tesco car park in the city’s Maryhill Road while walking a dog.

Wilson pulled his black hat over his eyes and said to Mr Carvill: “Geez yer money aff ye, you’re getting stabbed.”

Mr Carvill told Wilson he didn’t have any money and tried to walk away from him.

Prosecutor Adele Macdonald told Sheriff Sean Murphy QC: “The accused lifted his top and from his waistband produced a kitchen knife with a blade around eight inches in length.

“He brandished the knife at Mr Carvill and stated ‘I’ll do you wae this’.

“Mr Carvill told Wilson that he was going to contact the police and at that point he put the knife back in his waistband and ran away.”

A 999 call was made and place later traced Wilson who told officers that he had a knife in his possession.

The knife was recovered from Wilson’s waistband and he was arrested.

The hearing was told Wilson was caught again with an 8cm blade at an Indian takeaway in the city centre’s Oswald Street.

Miss Macdonald said: “The accused advised police that he was in possession of a knife and that it was concealed in his underwear.”

The knife which an orange handle was recovered and Wilson was arrested.

He later claimed to have picked the knife up from the ground after an altercation with another person and it wasn’t his property.

In reply to his charge, Wilson stated: “It wasn’t me.”
