THE founder of a club for Clydebank’s older residents is planning to undertake a sponsored ‘walk and roll’ later this month from his temporary wheelchair.

Jim McLaren, the founder of Golden Friendships, plans to raise money for the ongoing costs of refurbishing the club’s base in Dalmuir.

Jim is currently awaiting a hip replacement so is unable to walk long distances.

Other members of the club and Clydebank residents carried out sponsored walks throughout August, with some of them reliant on wheelchairs or walking aids to complete their chosen distance.

Jim wanted to take part too, but knew he wouldn’t be able to complete a long walk – so the former taxi driver has now decided to arrange a sponsored wheelchair event, with carers walking with those who require assistance.

The event, which Jim has named “Walk and Roll”, will take place on Sunday, September 13 at 12pm.

Jim told the Post: “I will be using a wheelchair as I can’t do a walk as I need a hip replacement.

“We would welcome anyone to join us.

“You can raise money for any charity you wish or just come along for a day out.

“All social distancing rules will apply.”

Anyone who wishes to take part can inform Jim by sending a Facebook message to the Golden Friendships page.
