DUMBARTON residents have once again been invited to get creative in naming this year’s West Dunbartonshire winter gritters.

The gritters are gearing up to start their winter shift again, and locals are being encouraged to enter a competition to come up with creative titles with a West Dunbartonshire twist for the eight vehicles.

The best entries will be printed on the side of the gritting fleet – meaning they will be displayed through Dumbarton, the Vale and surrounding areas.

Primary and secondary school pupils are also being invited to enter the naming challenge.

Councillor Iain McLaren, convener of infrastructure, regeneration and economic development, said: “I hope residents are feeling creative and I look forward to seeing the suggested names, especially those that have a connection to West Dunbartonshire, our history and our people.”

Councillor Marie McNair, vice convener of infrastructure, regeneration and rconomic development added: “We take our responsibility to keep West Dunbartonshire moving throughout winter extremely seriously, but this competition gives residents the chance to get involved, have a bit of fun and maybe even see their handiwork on display throughout our area.”

Last year, newly named gritters from youngsters included Plougher of Scotland and Gritty Gritty Bang Bang.
